Field Certification

When circumstances make regular product certification impractical, consider the Field Certification option from CSA International. It can be the ideal option when:

  • a product is made to order (one of a kind), or
  • a product is manufactured in a very small quantity.

Your CSA International Representative will evaluate the equipment and, if it complies, will label the equipment with a serialized Field Certification label. A typical label looks like this:

The process

Submittor

  • Prepares a written or E-mail request to CSA
    • full company name and address
    • name, telephone number, fax, and e-mail of the contact person
    • type, quantity, and installation location of the equipment
    • requested hazardous locations classification
    • location where the equipment is to be examined.
    • Product information
  • Accepts and signs CSA International's Service Agreement (unless already on file with CSA).

CSA International

  • Assigns a CSA International Representative to evaluate the equipment. This may include:
    • obtaining additional information or documentation
    • determining the acceptability of existing test data and/or certification reports of other agencies
    • obtaining samples for tests
    • communicating CSA's preliminary comments to the submittor before the equipment is examined
    • arranging for examination of the equipment at the submittor's site or at a CSA International office.

When the evaluation is complete and the documentation and results are satisfactory, the CSA International Representative:

  • Affixes the Field Certification label to the equipment.
  • Documents details of the equipment and other pertinent data in a CSA Field Certification Report.
  • Sends copies of the report to the submittor and to the authority that has jurisdiction (if applicable).
