Rob Griffin, President & CEO, CSA Group signs new Agreement with China Certification & Inspection Group Co., Ltd. (CCIC) and attends the First US-Sino Summit on Product Safety in China

From August 29 through September 1, 2005, Rob Griffin, President & CEO, CSA Group, Suzanne Kiraly, Vice President, International Services, CSA International and Doug Geralde, Director, Corporate Audits & Investigation, CSA Group were in Beijing and Shanghai, China to participate at two high–level events.

On August 29, Rob Griffin and Mr. Liu Shengming, Chairman, China Certification & Inspection (Group) Co., Ltd. (CCIC) signed a new agreement between CCIC and CSA International for the expanded operation of joint Client Service Centres. The Centres have been operating in Guangzhou and Shanghai since 1997 and now are have more than 30 local staff (engineering and sales). The CSA-CCIC Service centres coordinate local testing and certification services for Chinese manufacturers exporting products to North America. For the first time, the Client Service Centres will offer clients management system registration services from QMI, for IS0 9000 and 14,000. CCIC and CSA International’s working relationship began in 1986 with cooperation on inspections and has continued to evolve ever since.

Madam. Wang Fengqing, Chief Administrator of China’s Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA), attended the signing ceremony for the CSA-CCIC Agreement and joined the delegation for a valuable exchange of on CSA Groups’ expansion plans in China. Madame Wang welcomed CSA’s expansion, particularly plans for a local testing facility in conjunction with CNCA and CCIC.

Madam. Wang also expressed her gratitude toward CSA Group’s efforts and contribution to China’s certification industry in recent years and gave very high praises to the cooperation between CSA International and CCIC. She also asked that the two parties make further and new contributions to the “cooperation of the two countries’ certification territories based on mutual benefits and mutual care, long term cooperation, and enduring foundation.”

First US-Sino Summit on Product Safety

CSA Group was also invited by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairman Hal Stratton to attend a Summit with US and Chinese government officials, retailers, and manufacturers to investigate how product safety can be improved in both countries.

From August 30 through September 1, CPSC and its counterpart, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) met to discuss their respective product safety regulations and processes. In addition, presentations and working groups led by CPSC and Chinese government officials presented the retail, industry and certification organization approaches to improving product safety. Separate working groups for electrical/electronic, toys, fireworks, and lighters were held. The Summit led to new commitments toward training, the exchange of ideas and staff, and continued communication. In addition, it was agreed that the US-Sino Summit on Product Safety should be held every two years.
