EK-Mark
Based on the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Control Law, certain categories of electrical & electronic products require the EK-Mark Certification. The EK-Mark is administered by the Agency for Technology and Standards, MOCIE.

Korean electrical safety standards have been harmonized based on the IEC (International Electro-technical Commission) standards. Also, South Korea is a member of the IECEE Certification Body Scheme for a variety of different devices. A Certification Body Report and Certificate issued by CSA International would be a conduit into this marketplace.

Detailed information regarding certification in South Korea

Country	SOUTH KOREA
Mandatory certification - Safety	Mandatory certification is required for electrical/electronics equipment with supplied input power between 50 V and 1000 V, except measuring instrument, electrical equipment for medical use and low voltage, high power switching equipment. Measuring instrument can obtain voluntary certification. Electrical equipment for medical use and low voltage can obtain KTL and KFDA certification. Local legal representative is required. Manufacturer shall be the one who actually manufactures the product in his product line. When a product is manufactured by several independent factories, the certification shall be issued for each factories even if the products are the same model. Telecom and wireless products require Type Registration with RRL
Certification body	Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) for EK mark safety approval Radio Research Lab for Type Registration for MIC marking. KTL is one of RRL-designated labs for Type Registration
Safety standards	IEC based. IEC 60065 used for gaming machines. AC supply is predominantly 220V, 60 Hz. Plugs shall comply with KSC 8305.
Mandatory certification mark	Ek-Mark with certification body name and certification number for mandatory certification. EMI/EMS Mark for EMC compliance. K-Mark for voluntary certification. MIC marking for radio approval for wireless products.
EMC requirement	EMI/EMS compliance is mandatory for safety certification.
EMI/EMS standards	CISPR based standards for EMI. CISPR 22 used for gaming machines. EN based standards for EMS.
CSA test report acceptability	CSA CB test report with Korea national deviations is accepted. CSA EMC test report is accepted
User manual in local language (safety or EMI/EMS related)	Instruction manual shall be in Korean. Appliance markings related to safety including nameplate shall be in Korean.
Sample requirement	Normally no for EK certification. Sample is required for Type Registration for MIC marking.
Factory inspection requirement / CSA inspection report acceptability	Initial and follow-up factory inspection to CENELEC CIG 022B and 023 (formerly MC-6B and C) are required. CSA CENELEC type factory inspection report is acceptable.
